Samsung introduced the HW-Q990B, its new high-end soundbar designed for 3D audio. It is compatible with Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, Chromecast, AirPlay and Bluetooth formats.

Just a few months after presenting the Samsung HW-S800B, the Korean firm is back with a new premium soundbar. Very similar to its predecessor, the Samsung HW-Q990B is equipped with 22 speakers and emits completely surround sound thanks to its 11 channels.

To reinforce this sound experience, the soundbar has the Q-Symphony functionality deployed by Samsung, which allows the sound distribution through the built-in speakers of Samsung TVs to be combined with the signal emitted by the external soundbar. The combination of the two audio systems allows for a broader and more enveloping sound spatialization.

The soundbar therefore benefits from 11 horizontal channels, 1 subwoofer and 4 vertical channels and offers a total power of 656 W. Compatible with the Q-Symphony function developed two years ago at Samsung, the bar can be synchronized with a compatible TV from the brand to amplify the audio experience: good news for movie, music and video game lovers.

Samsung has also developed SpaceFit Sound technology that delivers clear, immersive sound by optimizing your audio to match your space. The soundbar can even automatically analyze the room itself, calibrating the sound field to fit your room perfectly.

Like Polk Audio's recent (and more affordable) MagniFi Mini AX, the set supports Dolby Atmos (wireless) but also DTS:X. As for audio formats, you can also enjoy sound in Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos for Music. The soundbar can also act as a Bluetooth speaker that supports the SBC audio codec for music streaming.

Full connectivity: eARC, HDMI CEC, Chromecast, AirPlay

In terms of connectivity, the soundbar has two HDMI inputs, one HDMI output that supports eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) and allows you to transmit the original audio signal in full resolution and reproduce the best sound without compromise. The soundbar also benefits from support for the HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) standard, as well as an optical input. Wi-Fi is of course present and is supported by Chromecast, Spotify Connect and AirPlay 2.
